Background
As a native of New Jersey I've been painting my entire life. I earned my BFA from Mason Gross School of Art and was a designer in NY for many years. I worked in oils until I studied with Wolf Kahn and was drawn to the immediacy of pastels-- their color and their vibrancy.

Julie is the owner of Artspace Studio & Gallery, a working studio in Morristown, NJ where artists can come together as a group to share creative energy. The studio presently has pastel classes on Wednesday and Thursday mornings, taught by Julie Friedman PSA. Tuesdays are "Open Studio" days where anyone can drop in, pay for the day, and work in a community of other artists. Artspace Studio also runs workshops throughout the year.

Artspace Gallery is an event gallery which supports and highlights established area artists, as well as emerging artists in the community. Artspace will have four events per year, each one celebrating new work and new ideas. In between events, the gallery is used as studio space for rent.... an opportunity for working artists to have a space away from their living space, to explore their creative processes. For rental prices and availability, contact the gallery.

Process
I try to paint very quickly and very often. The faster I work, the less I think, and the more I react instinctively. I believe that this process allows honest impressions and emotions to be recorded without being censored. I strive to keep my work loose and fresh and paint every day so that each painting becomes less important. This allows me to relax and take risks. For me, that is when exciting things happen.
